Nellie Zoghby Art Award
Artist Reginald McDade
Title Platform City, New York
Medium watercolor markers
Reginald McDade entered MARC a year ago and participates in the adult training program at the Fred Delchamps Center. His Platform City, New York is representative of memories of life in Brooklyn and lower Manhattan. Reggie’s peers have been fascinated by his daily drawings which tell stories of New York subways and Coney Island with great detail. Reginald’s talent was highlighted last spring when he received the VSAarts of Alabama Image Award. His A Night in New York was selected for the program cover of the annual VSAarts of Alabama Creativity exhibit sponsored by AT&T and Alabama Power in Birmingham.
Reginald’s favorite leisure activities are drawing, watching cartoons, bike-riding, skate-boarding, and listening to Hip Hop music. His favorite sports teams are the New York Yankees and the New York Nicks. He attends MARC-Art classes with Carolyn Greene and has been assisted by Spring Hill College art therapy intern Stephanie Bullick during October.
Reginald lives at home with his mother, Loretta Nobles.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Barbara Austin in the loss of her sister.
ROOM 105
Our class was busy this month. The people we support enjoyed Movie Day while munching on a variety of snacks. Casino Day was a hit, with different drinks and games.
The month ended with Oktoberfest and Western Day. B. C. Rain High School Band played music & different food items were sold. We had a pep rally and our class represented the Rattlers.
ROOM 116
The people we support had a great time at Day Lake Tricentennial Park on a beautiful community outing. Everyone had a chance to socialize with their peers at the picnic. They also enjoyed a relaxing day at Municipal Park with another picnic. Class 116 had lots of fun during the pep rally for the, “Battle of the Classrooms.”
During rotation, the woodwork and arts and crafts classes are busy working on yard signs and crosses. They are having fun making the scrapbook of their choice.
The class would like to wish a Happy Birthday to Brian P. and Rodricko E.
FDC
Everyone at the Fred Delchamps Center enjoyed “Western Day.” Tina Walker went “above and beyond” organizing all the fun and food everyone enjoyed. Thanks to Bruce Wetherbee and Richard Lewis for preparing the delicious Barbecue Chicken and to the Cafeteria Staff for the “sides.” It was a great day and a great time for all.

ROOM 6
We’d like to welcome our new Instructor, Gloria Singleton. We would also like to thank Tina Walker, Recreation Department, for all the gym activities she “creates” for us. She has all kinds of activities we enjoy. Welcome back to Angela Andrews. We surely missed her and offer our sympathy to her and her family on the death of her husband, Walter.
We are looking forward to the Wales West Light Railway Train Ride to the Pumpkin Patch and a visit to the Haunted Barn.
ROOM 7
Room 7 has been enjoying watching movies in the gym with Tina Walker and sitting outside in the beautiful Courtyard enjoying the wonderful weather and listening and watching the many birds flying around. Our consumers enjoyed painting Pumpkins with Carolyn Green, FDC’s Art Instructor.

This month our class enjoyed a trip to the Park for a Cookout and then to the Dollar Store to purchases the items needed for our Mexican Party on Oct. 24. We also enjoyed a trip to Wal-Mart to get the things needed for our Halloween Party. We want to welcome Don Penry to our room as one of our Instructors and wish the best to Bonita Williams on her new assignment to Room 5.
ROOM 10
Room 10 is at it again – we’ve gone Mexican! On the 24th of October, we took part in a Mexican Fiesta. With the assistance of our Instructors and Service Coordinator, Markissha Lawson, we made flags of Mexico, Maracos, Mini-Sombreros and tasted Mexican Cuisine. We’d like to wish our Instructor, Diane Burroughs, a very Happy Birthday and may she have many, many more. We love you, Diane.
